Because My Mother Was a Change Maker

By  Elena Harder

we have come to walk this gorgeous earth
as change makers who know their role
so things can be so, so different
than they were before.

so that freedom may ring upon the land
strife and starvation a distant memory

I am a woman, the voice of our generation
I am the daughter of change makers,

Because my mother was a change maker,
no one hit my bum.

Because she was a change maker,
my father never hit me.
Neither did the teachers,
or the church men, or the nuns.

Because your mother was a change maker,
I wasn’t raped by your brother after school.
or “caught someplace I shouldn’t be” by your father
and “punished” in ways that were too cruel.

Because our mothers were change makers
We didn’t grow up in fear, starvation or leering looks
We grew up with the freedom to read books

Because your mother was a change maker.
You got to go to school.
and choose your own major in college,

Because of a generation of change makers
You got to see the glass ceiling,
and wonder why it’s there,

instead of sitting at home raising babies,
while your husband does his secretary after work
making excuses like “fair is fair”

Because our grand mothers were change makers,
your mother felt she had the right to ask for change.
Because our mothers were change makers
we feel we deserve the freedoms in which we were raised.

yet despite this legacy of change,
and how free we were raised to be

many were not as lucky as me,
They suffered greatly from the old ways.
and many still quake within their mental walls,
struggling to find the strength to to be whole

So there is still work to do,
to raise a free woMAN in this land

The time for change is always now,
so raise your voice and speak out loud
the valiant thoughts you’ve always held

find your voice,
make your choice,
and stand in your power now.

together we are claiming greater strength
together we stand, here, hand in hand,
as the change makers our babes need

things will change more
than ever before.

My only question to you change maker
which changes are you ready to stand up for?

About Your Host:

Elena Harder

As a single parent for many years, Elena knows what it's like to live in daily overwhelm that seems it will never end. After suffering from severe post-partum depression for 5 years, and an abusive relationship that she couldn't seem to quit, Elena developed a case of seriously self destructive self talk about being a "horrible mother". She knew she needed to do something different, but couldn't seem to shake old patterns. She started to experiment with the few things that HAD been working to bring her more peace, and combined them into one power packed (and quick) experience, to help find that inner peace, and make progress towards her goal of ACTUALLY feeling like a good mom. Through these tracks she's been able to stop experiencing irrational anger towards child, is no longer experiencing mental health challenges, and has even attracted a wonderful man into her life who is a great father to her son and a dream come true. Now she works to help other mothers to manage and reduce their stress, build healthier relationships, stop sounding like their mothers, and live lives they once only dreamed of.

You try and be peaceful, loving and kind, but then they constantly leave messes... EVERYWHERE!!
It's enough to drive a sane woman crazy.

You've tried everything you can think of, but they still push your buttons. It's time to Re-Program Your Subconscious.
